This is a special week astrologically and spiritually, as the September Equinox on Monday coincides with the movement of our Sun into Libra.
Not only will we experience night and day being as long as each other as the Equator passes the centre of the Sun, but we will be given the opportunity to reflect upon a new season, a new cycle, and where we stand in life. Libra is about balance, and it is perfect that this particular astrological sign is strongly highlighted as time itself stands in perfect balance through the passage of the Equinox.
Furthermore, the significance of the Sun at this particular time should not be overlooked: His transition into Libra and central role in the Equinox makes the qualities of Light and power all the more important for us and our world at this time.
The symbolism of events such as these has meaning, always. The alignments concern precision and equilibrium in the relationship between day and night, light and dark, Sun and Moon, and endings and beginnings, but they are made ambiguous by the involvement, this time, of the mysteries of the Libran scales of justice that introduce profound concepts of symmetry, fairness and harmony to the principle of balance. The conventional understandings of an Equinox are changed thereby and a deeper meaning presented, relating to karma.
The Law of Karma is known also as the Law of Cause and Effect, whereby whatever is thought or done has a direct and appropriate repercussion, particularly when it is negative. It is a rebalancing, a cancelling out as well as a salutary lesson in life and something perhaps for us all to consider at this time of a Libran Equinox. The power of the Light will provide a searchlight into our souls to illuminate what is hidden and needs to be seen, revealing the karma therein. This Equinox is our new season, our chance to put right what is awry or neglected, to be decisive or to compromise, to heal or say sorry. Politicians wrangling with self-interest at the expense of their country and their planet would be well served to remember this too.
As we mark the balanced transition from one season to another, a new cycle begins for the Planet also as she awaits her future. Her agents in nature know what is coming as the trees shed, or assume, their leafy garments and birds and animals respond to the call of change. In many parts of the UK a long summer continues still, but despite the warmth and because of the time of year, the natural rhythm of life goes on, aware of the weather but focused on the season and the time and what must be done.
We are reminded that beneath the outer reality of solar calculations and their impact on Earth there is a natural pattern to existence which is unfathomable unless we are aligned with nature, something that, were we to achieve it, would end our striving and wanting and bring fulfilment. This is balance in action, and is what the Equinox is really all about.
